Meet the Artist
Chloe Chlumecky (b. 1999) is a figurative oil painter based in Windsor, Ontario. She earned her BA from the University of Windsor in 2021. Drawing inspiration from quiet, often overlooked moments of everyday life, her work reflects on the intimacy and nostalgia embedded in ordinary experiences. Through a blend of whimsy and emotional resonance, Chloe aims to preserve memories that speak to the shared nuances of the human experience. Her paintings have been exhibited throughout Canada and the United States, and she has received grants from both the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council.
As an oil painter my work centers on the quiet, overlooked aspects of daily life; the fleeting moments that carry the weight of memory and emotion. These are the scenes that reveal our human experience, and it’s in their stillness and subtlety that I find my inspiration.
My paintings are autobiographical, rooted in my own life and surroundings. I take reference photos from everyday moments—mundane but meaningful glimpses—that I later reimagine in the studio. This process allows me to capture the immediacy of a lived moment and translate it into a new, intimate experience for the viewer. With a palette that leans nostalgic and a perspective that is both personal and reflective, I strive to preserve these moments in a way that feels tender, whimsical, and emotionally resonant.
Light plays a central role in my work, it’s often the starting point for a painting. I’m drawn to the way light falls through a window, glows across a surface, or catches the edge of an object, transforming the ordinary into something luminous. In the studio, I aim to echo that same sense of atmosphere and presence through a restrained, deliberate approach to brushwork. Working in a wet-on-wet technique, I build each piece slowly and intuitively. I use a “less is more” philosophy by allowing visible brushstrokes and intentional transitions to elicit a fresh, painterly texture.
Ultimately, I aim to create paintings that don’t just depict—but preserve. My work is a quiet invitation to pause, notice, and find beauty in the everyday.
